What format is the tennis? The primary emphasis of MSTC is social tennis,
so most events are mixed doubles. Singles and doubles play is
available as part of tournaments and other competitive events.

How do I find out about events? In addition to the Web
site, MSTC publishes a
monthly newsletter containing the calendar, registration information, and
other news of interest to the club. MSTC News is sent free to
all members.

Are reservations necessary to play at an event? Summer outdoor tennis (with
the exception of tournaments) is available on a drop-in basis; no
reservation is necessary. Tournaments and indoor events require
advance reservation.

What is the charge for events? During the summer, outdoor
tennis activities are available without charge, with the exception of
tournaments, which have a nominal charge. During the indoor tennis
season, tennis events without a social activity are $12-16 for two hours of
play. Combined tennis events and social activities usually charge
$16, which includes court time and refreshments.

Do I need to find a partner to play with MSTC? No. For most events
you can register alone. The coordinator for the event will match you
with various partners during the event.

Do I need to be a member of a tennis club to participate in
MSTC events at that club? No. Our event charges include admission and
guest fees at all tennis facilities.

Who runs the club? MSTC is a voluntary organization. Our Board of
Directors is elected at the club's annual meeting, and serves for a
year. Events and social activities are coordinated by volunteers
within the club.

Who may join MSTC? New membership in MSTC is open to unmarried persons,
or those who are married but separated. A member may continue in the
club after marriage or remarriage, as long as the membership is maintained
without interruption. A former or separated spouse of a member is not
eligible for membership in MSTC, without the written consent of the member,
for a period of two years.

What tennis levels are represented in the club? Club tennis ratings range
from 1.5 to 5.0, with the majority of our members playing at 2.5 - 4.0
levels. MSTC uses a self-rating system, and club ratings tend to be
higher than NTRP ratings. Rating restrictions apply to some events,
so that the tennis played is relatively well balanced.

What are other benefits of being a member? Club members often sponsor
other social events, such as ski trips, golf, or bicycle outings. Notice
of these events appears in the club newsletter. Also, club members
may place free classified ads in the newsletter.

How much does membership cost? Annual dues are $30.

How old are MSTC members? MSTC has no restriction on age, and our
members range from their 20's to their 70's. The majority of current
members are over 45.

What is the mix of men and women in the club? As of November, 2004, our membership
included 152 men and 154 women. In addition, we try to keep the
balance of men and women even at all events.

Can I come to an MSTC event to see if I want to join? Yes. Non-members may
participate in two MSTC events, if there is room.
